So for a change I have decided to head to Scotland to train with one of the guys from my club. Rory Downie http://www.rorydownie.com/, Will be good to get in the pool with some good swimmers and strong riders instead of the solo training I have been used to for the last 2 months. I have never been to Scotland so not sure what to expect, hopefully something like this.......
Who knows? But seriously should be good to see some different place and meet some cool people.
I have all ways found that the person I find hardest to beat is the one that lives between my ears. The mind games I play with myself when everything isn't going according to plan is the HARDEST thing about training and racing. I know that most of my bad races have come down to a mental aspect rather than a physical. Very few times has the mind wanted to do something and the body not responded! This makes the brain one of the most powerful things I can use when racing and training. Yet its also the hardest to train because it is a lot more complex than your heart and legs. When you are happy with yourself and everything around you, it all seems to fall into place, this is what I'm working towards. Nothing is better than everything working well together mind and body!
Getting pretty philosophical here. But thats what I find hardest about sport
Life is Precious. I found out that a friend from home was hit and killed in a tragic accident on friday night whilst out training on his bike. John Cornish you taught me a lot! we had some very serious D&Ms where you helped me realises whats important. You have changed my life more than you will ever know. No matter what you where always smiling a great Mentor
RIP John Cornish
So with a lot of spare time on my hands I thought I might jump on a online book store and order myself some books to read. So I found a couple of titles that took my interest all very similar in theme. see below
Hopefully I can brush up on my skills on the tools from the Zinn books and the biographies make for a interesting read.
On a totally un related topic, we had a Hedgehog move into the garden! One of my goals when coming to france was to find a Hedgehog, Squirrel and Dear. I'am yet to find a Dear but the two others are ticked off the list. Here is a few pics of our new garden friend.
So I decided to take a camera on my ride today. A little background, I'm living in France just north of Paris. The terrane is predominately flat and farming land, there are a few rolling hills and some interesting pockets of forest. The weather was fantastic so here are a few photos of one of my training rides. A little different to what Melbourne is like at the moment.
This is what the fields around where I live look like, would you like a peace of corn?
Stoping to pick some roadside fruit, something i have been doing a lot of in France. I have eaten cherries, raspberries, apricots, apples and blackberries there will be no hunger flatting on rides over here.
Just rolling along.
Some of my hills and forest.
My favourite sign when out riding, must say something about ducks I guess?? and a final one of the amazing weather and scenery.
Ok so I have had 3 races in France so far, they have all gone well one podium, one fourth and one very hot race!
So here's my race calendar for the next few months and a brief description of what some of the races are*
* subject to random change at the whim of me
July 17th Sprint draft legal. This is the northern half of France semi final for clubs in division 3, the top 10 clubs after this race make it to the Grand final of division 3. My club is confident we will make it though. Last year they where in Div 2 but got dropped down so I understand we will be one of the stronger clubs.
August 15th. Nevers Triathlon this is a non drafting sprint distance race, with some very good prizes on offer!
September 4th. This is the Grand final of Div 3, 100 guys going hard. The top 3 teams move up to Div 2. This is where my team hopes to be.
September 11th. There is a Draft legal sprint race, thats all I know.
18th september Xterra style off road sprint distance race.
October 8th. French Cup, this race has all clubs from all divisions in it. Should be some very fast racing with some of the best french triathletes competing.
I also wanted to try and race Paris triathlon elite and london triathlon elite. But I didn't get my entry's in on time which was a bummer! I also will have a few Aquathon's, road races and any other small triathlon I can find.
